FAQ: What Is My Role as a Patient During a Remote Session?
The full answer
Your role during a remote acupuncture session is simple, and on purpose. Rest. Breathe. Allow. That is the whole of it. You are not asked to perform, to focus intently, to visualise, or to follow along. The treatment is designed to be received passively. The work is done by the practitioner on the proxy model. Your task is to be available to receive.
This often surprises people who come from active wellness practices like meditation, yoga, or breathwork. In those practices, you are the agent of the work. In a remote acupuncture session, the agent of the work is the practitioner, and your nervous system. You provide the space and the willingness. The session does the rest.
In practical terms, that means lying down or sitting in a comfortable position, in a quiet room, with no interruptions for the full 29 minutes of the Acu-Zone treatment window. You can listen to soft music if you prefer, or silence. You can keep eyes closed or open. You can drift in and out of awareness. Sleep is welcome. In fact, many patients fall asleep during sessions and report feeling deeply rested afterwards. There is no requirement to stay awake.
The one piece of work that is yours, and only yours, comes before the session: setting an intention. This is part of the Energetic CODE, the first step of the Three-Step Method. Your intention can be a single word, a sentence, or a paragraph. Honest matters more than elegant. Once shared with Guadalupe, you can let it go. The intention orients the session, but you do not have to hold it in your mind during the treatment.
If your mind wanders, that is fine. If you feel restless, that is fine. If you feel nothing, that is fine. If you feel tearful, calm, warm, or simply tired, all of that is fine. The session is not a test. There is no correct experience to have. The honesty of your presence, whatever shape it takes that day, is enough.
After the session, you may receive an image of the proxy work by phone or email. If you have booked a Full Session, there is also a 15-minute feedback conversation where you can share what you noticed, or simply rest into the close of the session. With a Mini Session, the feedback is yours to keep, integrate, or share by message if you wish.
Related questions
Q: Should I try to feel something specific during the session?
A: No. Trying to feel something specific can make it harder to settle. The session is structured to do its work whether you feel a great deal, a little, or nothing in the moment. Some people notice warmth, tingling, drifting, deep relaxation, or emotion. Others notice quiet. Both are normal. The honest invitation is to set an intention before, then let go and receive. What you notice afterwards, in the hours or days following, is often more telling than what you sense in the moment.
Q: Can I sleep through the whole session?
A: Yes, completely. Sleep is welcome. Many people choose evening sessions specifically because they want to drift off during the treatment. The Three-Step Method runs its course regardless of whether you are awake or asleep. The Energetic CODE is set before the session, and the Relaxing Points and Acu-Zone do not require your active attention. Some of the most restful sessions are the ones where the patient slept through them. Wake up afterwards and notice how you feel.
Q: What if I cannot stop thinking during the session?
A: That is normal and does not interfere with the work. Many people arrive with busy minds, especially if they are receiving the session during a difficult period. You do not need a clear mind to receive. You just need to lie down. The thoughts will come and go, the body will settle in its own pace, and the session will continue. Trying to silence the mind often increases its activity. Letting it do what it does, while you simply rest, tends to allow more ease.
Q: Do I need to do anything afterwards?
A: Nothing strict, but a few suggestions help. Drink water. Move slowly out of the rest. Avoid jumping straight into a stressful task or call if you can. Some people like to journal a few words about what they noticed, or simply nap. The integration period is yours. There is no homework, no follow-up exercise, and no required practice between sessions. If something arises that you want to share, you are welcome to message. Otherwise, simply continue your day with a little more space.
Next step. If you would like to experience receiving a session for yourself, you can book a Mini Session and rest into the work without performing anything at all.
